Ningbo Welcomes the First Batch of Philippine Fresh Durians
By Dong Na
An all-cargo flight from Manila, the Philippines arrived in Ningbo with 500 kg of fresh durian recently.
This is the first time for Zhejiang Province to import fresh durian from the Philippines.
The durian variety is Puyat. Golden Puyat durian is popular among consumers for its golden flesh, rich fragrance and creamy texture, and is produced in Davao City, which is known as the "Big Fruit Basket of the Philippines" and the "City of Durian".
The durian took about five days from picking to arrival and is mainly going to be sold to Jiaxing fruit wholesale market.
According to Wang Yilan, manager of the fresh food import department of Ningbo Jierong Technology Supply Chain, the wholesale price of the durian is expected to be 600 yuan per box, and a box weighs about 10 kg.
"From arrival to customs clearance, it took less than three hours, and the fast customs clearance speed makes us confident about the subsequent import, and we hope this batch of Philippine durian will be welcomed by Zhejiang consumers," Wang Yilan said.
In near future, three to five flights are expected to come to Ningbo every week, each with a cargo volume ranging from 5 to 8 tons.
Thanks to the continuous increase in cargo capacity at Ningbo Lishe International Airport and the opening of new routes, more and more importers are choosing Ningbo as the first stop for fresh products to enter the Chinese market.
Now is the peak season for the entry of fresh fruits such as durian. To support the rapid import of fresh products, Customs has been improving its service capability, grasping the information of fresh product's arrival in advance, and reasonably deploying on-site supervision manpower to help the imported fresh products clear customs quickly. This allows the public to quickly taste delicious products from around the world.
