The 9th Ningbo International University Students Festival kicked off on April 12th, enabling overseas students to gain a valuable insight into traditional Chinese culture. This event was under the sponsorship of Ningbo Education Bureau and the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and organized by the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC).
On 14th April, almost 50 international students from seven colleges, including Ningbo University, Ningbo University of Technology and UNNC, visited Ningbo (Hangzhou Bay) Youth Activity Base and took part in a series of activities to experience traditional Chinese culture and techniques.
These activities helped overseas students to savor the charm of Chinese culture: some followed the teacher to practice Tai Chi while others dressed in Chinese costume to sample Chinese tea.
“Today’s event is a wonderful experience. The tea class made me feel that China is a diverse and fast developing country, and I hope to have more opportunities to visit the base in the future,” said Kalkidan, an Ethiopian student from Ningbo University. Jamam, a Nigerian student, exclaimed in fluent Chinese, “All the experiences are cool! Everything is great today!”
Ningbo Qianwan New District is an emerging growth area of Ningbo’s economic development, involving many major development strategies such as Qianwan New District Economy, Yangtze River Delta Integration, Coastal Economic Belt, Yangtze River Economic Belt and Belt & Road Initiative (BRI).
Situated in this region, the Ningbo (Hangzhou Bay) Youth Activity Base is an International Student Exchange base under the BRI in Ningbo. It has received eight batches of hundreds of overseas students from the US, South Korea, Romania and other countries since 2018, offering a wonderful learning experience and many memories.
For the future development of the base, an official noted that they will continue to work on international cultural cooperation and exchange in terms of recruiting professional teachers, improving the international curriculum, and diversifying supporting services. The base is aimed at providing an avenue for international cultural exchange and cooperation in Qianwan New District and even across Ningbo.
