Ningbo in East China’s Zhejiang province is now building itself as a prime destination for Central and Eastern European products (CEE products) and these goods have become “imported specialties” in the city. Recently, new initiatives have been launched with the purpose of accelerating the advancement of China-CEEC Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone and expanding the influence of CEE products.
On October 24th, “Charming CEEC · 2022 CEE Products Week” kicked off. The event is hosted by the Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Commerce and undertaken by the Ningbo Society for the Promotion of CEEC Economic and Trade Cooperation and Cultural Exchanges, aiming at popularizing CEEC economy and culture among consumers in Ningbo and beyond while exhibiting the commodities.
8 livestreaming sessions will be staged on the official video account of “China-CEEC Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone” to extend the cultural influence of goods from CEEC. The first session took place in the rose-themed pavilion on the second floor of the CEEC Products Permanent Pavilion, offering consumers a chance to learn more about Bulgarian cultural customs and brand stories.
“Bulgaria is honored as the ‘Kingdom of Roses’. Craftsmen perfected the rose essential oil from purchasing, refining, to extracting with their great originality.” Stoyan Gegovski (Gao Weiyi as his Chinese name), a Ningbo University graduate from Bulgaria, introduced his hometown as the ambassador of CEEC cultural exchange in fluent Chinese during the livestreaming.
“I feel really happy to be engaged in the CEE product imports in Ningbo! There are healthy and nutritious yogurts, and cost-effective skin-care products from Bulgaria... Bringing quality commodities to consumers keeps me motivated.” Chen Yi, the general manager of Ningbo Dijia VIDA Trading Co., Ltd., talked about her business experience and promoted the Bulgarian Biofresh that her company distributes and represents.
According to the organizers, “Charming CEEC 2022 CEE Products Week” is committed to highlighting the cultural influence of CEE products. Through a deeper insight and interpretation of the culture and stories behind the brands, a batch of CEE product brands with competitive potential and consumer acceptance are expected to spring up.
Meanwhile, 60 stories on importers, distributors, and consumers of CEE products will be collected and publicized. They include the well-known Hungarian Noble Wine, Czech crystal, Romanian cosmetics, Polish milk, etc.
To strive for the goal of “importing \$10 billion (72.29 billion yuan) worth of CEE products in 5 years”, Ningbo has responded to the complex situation with a great focus on the whole industrial chain of CEE commodity imports this year, promoting commodities and brands from CEEC through consumption guidance and market cultivation.
As statistics from Ningbo Customs show, its trade volume with CEEC hit 29.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.7% and 9.5 percentage points higher than the national level from January to August this year. Among them, the city’s imports from CEEC reached 6.61 billion yuan, up by 40.6% year on year and 44.9 percentage points more than the national total.
