“As a young teacher, I am privileged and thrilled to represent fellow counterparts of China to exchange ideas with over 100 delegates from across the globe.” Wang Yue, a teacher from Ningbo’s Beilun District, spoke with enthusiasm as she walked out of a conference held in New York, America. The Youth Assembly at the United Nations and Global Educators Workshop concluded on August 14th.
Starting off on August 11, the 28th AFS Youth Assembly began in New York, where young leaders and educators from over 100 countries and regions gathered.
Wang, the young teacher from Ningbo Binhai International Cooperative School, attended the Assembly as a recipient of a partial scholarship offered by the event. It is worth mentioning that she was the only individual engaged in basic education in China’s teacher delegation at the Assembly.
Centering on the theme of “Breakthrough to a Better Future”, delegates engaged in keynote speeches, forums, seminars, and dialogues on the Sustainable Development Goals to discuss challenges and solutions of global issues including climate change, social equality, urbanization, education, and employment.
During the group discussions at the Global Educators Workshop, Wang shared how her school integrates international education with local education through innovative approaches, how it helps students learn from international model schools and fosters their awareness of sustainable development, global citizenship, and universal leadership through project-based learning and cross-disciplinary courses.
Born in 1991, Wang graduated from Beijing Normal University with a master’s degree in 2015. After graduation, she joined Ningbo Binhai International Cooperative School in Beilun District, Ningbo, and has since embarked on a profound journey in the field of international education.
Over the past 8 years, Wang has demonstrated a passion for education and achieved remarkable results. Her course was selected as an exceptional case of international education by the Chinese Society of Education. She has also secured a silver in the national-level international high school teachers teaching skills competition and was honored with many titles including the Outstanding Class Head Teacher of Beilun.
“After returning home, I will share this invaluable experience with my colleagues, students, parents, fellow educators, and enthusiastic supporters of education.” Wang placed a high value on her days at this year’s Assembly.
She carried on, “Education plays a significant role in shaping a sustainable future. As an educator from Beilun, I feel immensely proud and honored to make a difference.”
她说,“教育在塑造可持续发展的未来中,扮演着重要角色,作为一名北仑教育工作者,我倍感骄傲和自豪。”
Looking into the future, Wang is confident and ambitious. “Through joint efforts with my colleagues, I look forward to helping foster international education so that generations of young leaders will be nurtured who can confidently step onto the global stage, sharing China’s perspectives, stories, and unique charm with the rest of the world!”
