口述:马克·史怀哲 整理:南二丽 马克·史怀哲(马克)是宁波诺沃克进出口贸易公司的执行经理。他和妻子以及两个女儿在宁波生活了4年了。现在的他已经逐渐习惯了在中国的生活,成为了一个热情、随和的在甬奥地利商人。 My name is Marco Schweitzer. I have been in Ningbo for four years. I’ve also experienced difficulties here in Ningbo. The major problem for me is cultural differences. It is quite difficult to understand the Chinese way of thinking, concept of value, concept of timing, and style of working. It’s different from those of Europe. I should say the process of working in China is also a process of getting to know how to work in China. Now I am here longer and become accustomed to the life here. Coming to China is actually our company’s choice. There are only two branches of our company in China. One is in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province,and the other in Ningbo,Zhejiang Province. The company chose Ningbo because it is a city with lots of potentials in the next five to ten years,and because Ningbo has a convenient port and its economy is developing rapidly, an ideal place for a company to develop. Nowadays I expect our company is working on the cooperation with local companies and developing other businesses since the local companies are more familiar with local information, such as suppliers, policies and the state of the market. Our company is expanding the market and is likely to open more branches in other cities, such as Qingdao or Dalian. It is surely good to do business in China. My suggestion is getting some knowledge about policies and laws about taxes and personnel, and the Chinese way of thinking as well. Otherwise they may meet more difficulties. I also have encountered difficulties in many aspects. For example, we lack a little bit of money, equipment and technology. We do not understand China's laws and tax policies. In a word,we have cultural shock. Faced with these problems, sometimes we will have to cooperate with other big enterprises and communicate more with Chinese. If possible,I would hope there are the following improvements in Ningbo. For one thing,the government could simplify the procedures. That would help our business run easier. You know we have to change the currency and go to many government bureaus for approval and testimony, which usually takes us a long time. What’s more, their approval and testimony are needed for al-most all the commercial activities of my company. I wish that could be improved. Public facilities and services in Ningbo actually have been improved these years. Chinese and foreign companies have different cultures and different working styles. Meanwhile there are differences between different working positions in different fields. Difference is difference. We live in a time of cultures diversifying and integrating, whereas,mutual development and peace can still be achieved as long as there is an open mind. 译文: 我叫马克·史怀哲,到宁波四年了。 初到中国的时候,我觉得文化差异还是挺明显的。当时我很难了解中国人的思维方式、价值观、时间观以及工作态度。这里与欧洲的一些国家比起来都是不同的。 坦白说,这些年在这里工作的过程就是明白如何在中国工作的过程。 当初来宁波发展是我们总公司的选择。我们在中国的两个地方有分公司,一个是在广东深圳,另一个就在宁波。公司觉得宁波在接下来的5~10年有很大的发展潜力。因为宁波有一个便利的港口,而且她的经济发展特别快。在这样一个理想的商业城市,我们也在不断与当地的公司合作,扩大规模,拓展业务,因为这些企业都熟悉当地的信息,比如供应商、政策、市场情况。 在中国做生意挺好的,但是要在来这里之前学习一下中国的思维方式以及规章制度,不然会碰到很多困难。我最初就遇到过各种难处。例如,我们缺乏资金,设备和技术,不够了解中国的法律和税收政策。总之,就是文化差异问题。面对这些问题,我们有时会选择与其他大公司合作,多与中国人交流。 如果可以,我建议政府部门可以提高工作效率,简化各种程序,比如说,我们要花时间去兑换货币,每件事都需要签订协议,就要做很多工作,我想这方面是有提高的空间的。而且这对一个国家的发展和开放是相当有利。宁波各项设施这些年的确一直在改善。 另外,我觉得不仅中外的企业有文化差异,特别是工作方式不同,公司里各种岗位之间、工作领域之间也都有差异。这是一个不同的文化相互融合的时代,虽然各不相同,只要有一个开放的姿态,就能和平相处,共同发展。
