Recently, the culinary culture exchange event "Sweet Date on the Bite: A Taste of Zhejiang and CEEC" was held at Ningbo's Laowaitan (the Old Bund). Many traditional dishes from Central and Eastern Europe were showcased alongside local delicacies from all over Zhejiang, giving visitors a true feast of cultural and culinary delights.
As an important part of China-CEEC people-to-people and cultural exchanges, "Sweet Taste on the Bite" consists of a food and agro-products fair, a culinary tournament, a long table banquet, and many other activities.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Szilárd Bolla, Consul General of Slovakia in Shanghai said, "China is an important economic and trade partner of Slovakia. Slovakia attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is delighted to see the positive development of bilateral relations. I have visited Ningbo many times and have a very good impression of Ningbo. Ningbo is a very attractive city with rapid urban construction and an excellent deep-water port. The economic and trade cooperation and people -to-people exchanges between Ningbo and Slovakia are getting closer and closer."
Bulgarian chef Alfred introduced the special dishes that he prepared. "This is my first time to participate in the special food exchange activity and I feel so happy. I would like the citizens of Ningbo to enjoy my hometown's food," he said.
On the same day, a long table banquet with specialty dishes from CEE and 11 cities in Zhejiang Province was held at Laowaitan, open to all citizens and tourists. It brought together Liangnong rice cake, Romania sarmale, salted hairtail fish from the East China Sea, Ningbo sweet rice balls, and countless other mouth-watering dishes.
Murad, a trading agent from Turkmenistan, shared his feelings in fluent Chinese. He expressed his joy at participating in banquet, along with the hope that more Turkmenistan products could also be introduced to China and Ningbo in the future.
As a port of departure of China's ancient Maritime Silk Road and a pivot city of the Belt and Road initiative, Ningbo has established friendly relations with 22 cities in Central and Eastern Europe. Ningbo's Laowaitan was one of China's earliest ports to open up to international trade. Today, it has become an important portal and platform for global interaction and cultural exchange.
Cultural events such as "Sweet Taste on the Bite", in addition to promoting CEE foods and customs, can also increase mutual understanding between cultures, paving the way towards more commerce and investment partnerships between Ningbo and CEECs.
