Tianyige was built between 1561 and 1566 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), which is known around the world as the oldest private library in existence in China.
天一阁建于1561至1566年,作为中国现存最古老的私人图书馆而闻名于世。
No longer just a library to store valuable books, the Tianyige Museum nowadays also provides some new activities for the visitors to better appreciate the beauty of culture.
For example, the museum garden is transformed into a stage where Yue Opera actors performed the stories of A Dream in Red Mansions. The ancient garden landscape, with its "one step, one scene" style, has immersed the audience in the performance.
越剧演员将这里作为舞台,演出了《红楼梦》里的故事。这里的一步一景让观众们有了沉浸式的体验。
Moreover, the famous Kunqu opera Peony Pavilion was also presented here. The Tianyige Museum treasures a Ming Dynasty edition of the book Peony Pavilion. And now, the actors of Kunqu Opera reproduced the love story from 400 years ago.
