    Ningbo archer Zhou Jiamin has been picked as the flag-bearer for Team China at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, held between August 24 and September 5, the Chinese Paralympic Delegation announced on Monday.

    Zhou Jiamin was born in 1990 and lives in Jinping Street, Fenghua District, Ningbo. She won two gold medals at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and took titles at the 2019 World Championships in the Netherlands.

    The reason for choosing Zhou Jiamin as the flag-bearer is based on the consideration of the overall quality of the athletes. "Zhou was a champion at the Rio Paralympic Games. She just graduated from Beijing Sport University this year and is fluent in both English and Japanese," said Yangjian, a representative of Zhejiang Provincial Disabled Persons' Federation.

    There are three members in Zhou's family, her mother, a 19-year-old younger sister, and Zhou. Her younger sister suffers mental disability caused by cerebral palsy. After her parents divorced, she and her mother depended on each other for their lives.

    In 2013, Ningbo held a seated volleyball competition. Zhou Jiamin, who had never been formally trained, was mobilized to be a member to fill up the team.

    Coincidentally, Shao Shufen, the coach of the Provincial Disabled Archery Team, came to Ningbo to look for talented members. Coach Shao asked her if she was willing to try archery. At that time, Zhou Jiamin did not know anything about the sport. After thinking about it for a while, she agreed.

    It turns out that Coach Shao made the right choice. Later in an event in Shanghai, Zhou Jiamin showed her unusual ability. At that time, she was just trained for only a few months, but achieved good results in fourth place. Not only did this game impress the coach, but also built up Zhou Jiamin's confidence. In the following national championships, she won third place.
