"These days, we receive an influx of ten to twenty groups of guests daily, all eager to make an appointment for waxberry picking," said Fu Mingfeng, head of Mingyueyuan Agritainment in Nanlian Village, Cicheng.
As June arrives, the scent of ripe waxberries fills the air. With the growing popularity of picking tours in Cicheng, waxberry orchards have become a bustling attraction, drawing in a steady stream of visitors eager to experience the joy of picking their own fruit.
Farmers, busy attending to their guests, have also been diligently harvesting the freshest waxberries to meet the demand from Ningbo and across Zhejiang. Every morning at three or four o'clock, they make their ascent up the mountainside, armed with baskets ready to be filled.
"The combination of the cool morning mist and the heat of the sun throughout the day creates the perfect conditions for peak waxberry sweetness. We pluck the berries from the trees and promptly send them to customers via cold chain express delivery, guaranteeing the same freshness as if they were picked just moments ago."
Transporting the delicate waxberries requires utmost care. To help out-of-town visitors take home the tender fruits, Ningbo Airport provides bottled ice cubes, foam protective bags, foam boxes, and other packing material for a fee. The Airport has established a dedicated counter solely for handling waxberry shipments, where the staff ensures that the crates of waxberries are carefully handled and kept separate from other luggage.
Officials from Ningbo Airport kindly remind passengers wishing to transport waxberries to complete the check-in process at least two hours prior to departure. This precautionary measure helps maintain the taste and freshness of the waxberries, ensuring a delightful experience for those indulging in this seasonal delight.
