August 23rd marks the one-month countdown to the opening of 19th Asian Games Hangzhou.
As the Games draw near, Ningbo, a co-host city, has been diligently gearing up to ensure the success of this prestigious international sporting event.
Hospitality Quality Improvement
Ningbo's cultural and tourism industry is significant in many ways. Not only is it pivotal for the success of major events, but it also plays a key role in enriching the city's investment environment, amplifying the city's charm, attracting both local and global tourists, and ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life.
Recently, the 2023 "Welcoming the Asian Games" Ningbo Tourism Hotel Service Skills Competition was held, drawing 172 contestants from 46 hotels across the city. The competition featured five categories: service design, Chinese-style banquet table arrangement, Western-style banquet table arrangement, guest room arrangement, and bartending. Notably, this edition witnessed the largest number of participants and the most expansive scope in its history.
In this year's competition, elements symbolizing the Asian Games abound. Considering that most guests will hail from Asian countries and regions, the bed-making process is enriched with distinct national elements. Moreover, the welcome messages presented to every guest encompass not just Asian Games slogans but also carry the heartfelt greetings of Ningbo.
The competition exemplifies the efficacy of enhancing service quality within Ningbo's hotels in preparation for the Asian Games. The hospitality professionals demonstrated their pursuit for perfection and excellence, an assurance of the top-notch service they will provide as the Games commence.
Beyond being a contest, this event fostered a platform for budding talents in the hospitality sector to learn from one another. It offered them an opportunity to display their individual styles while simultaneously promoting their respective establishments. In this context, the competition assumes a vital role in advancing the overall standard of hotel services in Ningbo.
Asian Games Exhibition Opens
Recently, the "Asian Games and Ningbo" exhibition was inaugurated at the Ningbo City Exhibition Center, shedding light on the symbiotic connection between Ningbo and the Asian Games.
The emblems of previous Asian Games are showcased in the exhibition. These emblems stand not only as icons of the Games but also as emblems of unity and collaboration among nations and regions across Asia. Each emblem carries profound significance, featuring patterns and hues that echo the cultural identity of the host city. Through the emblem's unique lens, visitors can delve into the roots and evolution of the Asian Games, while immersing themselves in the emotions and cultures of the diverse Asian populace.
Since the 7th Asian Games in 1974, athletes from Ningbo have consistently earned spots on the Chinese Asian Games delegation. The first athlete from Ningbo to participate in the Asian Games was female swimmer Pan Weicheng. Over the years, 46 Ningbo athletes have participated in 12 editions of the Games, clinching an impressive tally of 34 gold medals and 62 medals in total. These remarkable achievements are vividly showcased within the exhibition.
The exhibition highlights both Ningbo and the Asian Games, weaving together a multi-dimensional narrative of Ningbo's sports journey. It embodies the urban spirit of Ningbo while elevating the sports culture that the Asian Games epitomize.
"I was very lucky to attend the opening ceremony. This exhibition helped me know more about the Asian Games. I really want to go to Xiangshan to watch the Games," said Zhao Chenghuan, a youngster who attended the exhibition, said. The exhibition will remain open until October 18th.
The City's New Look
In preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, Ningbo has embarked on a comprehensive drive to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal and environmental quality, resulting in a transformative makeover of its streets and alleys.
Traces of the Asian Games spirit have been thoughtfully incorporated into elevated roadways. Meanwhile, intersections are getting newly-painted crosswalks and display boards that evoke an unmistakable Asian theme.
Ningbo has designated 22 roads as "Asian Games welcome routes", complemented by 110 initiatives aimed at cleaning and improving pedestrian walkways. The captivating nighttime skyscraper light shows at the city center now proudly showcase Asian Games imagery. Additionally, 11 Asian Games-themed roads exude an immersive atmosphere, enveloping everyone in a spirit of inclusivity and participation.
The city's sanitation department curated a roster encompassing 166 pivotal roads for thorough cleansing. Main thoroughfares have already undergone seven rounds of comprehensive cleaning this year.
Furthermore, Ningbo has initiated a campaign to ensure pristine conditions around the Asian Games venues. The campaign seeks to present the public with venues akin to living-room standards. Targeted cleanup strategies have been devised, tailored to the unique attributes of each venue.
The city's landscaping department has diligently addressed a list of 115 tasks, spanning 16 city parks, 43 plant installations, and floral displays at 10 pivotal highway junctions and 46 roads.
Moreover, the city has undertaken a comprehensive enhancement project for ten main highway exits, with a focus on lawns, trees, and Asian Games-related slogans and mascot figures. Currently, work at nine exits have been completed. The environmental improvements have not only endowed the expressway exits with an enhanced aesthetic appeal but also gave them distinctive features that echo Ningbo's urban identity. Expressway exits serve as the gateway to a city. Consequently, these upgrades are not just about physical improvements; they are a reflection of the city's character and its warm embrace of visitors arriving for the Asian Games.
